"Christmas With The Aquabats!" is the 6th episode of The Aquabats! Super Show! from Season 2. It premiered on The Hub Network on December 21, 2013 at 1PM ET/10AM PT.

Synopsis[]

Ricky’s perfect Christmas is threatened when The Aquabats, en route to play at a tree lighting ceremony at a ski resort, take a wrong turn and arrive in a strange village controlled by a creature named the Krampus, and are convicted of breaking a law that forbids any Yuletide celebration. Their only chance at saving themselves and Christmas is for the big man himself, Santa, to lend a mitten!

Cartoons[]

Lil' Bat Cartoon[]

Lil' Bat goes from door to door, intentionally annoying people with his horrible caroling, until he meets a woman who's voice is so high pitched and beautiful that even Santa hears it, and he subsequently explodes from it.

Commercials[]

A Japanese language commercial for a man in a Christmas Tree suit to replace a regular tree, showing how it would be funner and protect against burglars.

Music[]

Christmas Is Special[]

Ricky sings a song about Christmas as a cartoon of himself plays. This song was later reused for the Kooky Kristmas Party!

Christmas is Awesome[]

A special holiday tune from The Aquabats. This song was later reused for the Kooky Kristmas Party! and the I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas Too! EP.

Characters[]

Cultural References[]

  • When the townspeople freak out at the Aquabats for mentioning Christmas, they act similarly to the aliens from the 1978 remake of Invasion of The Body Snatchers.
  • When Krampus shows up to Marco's house in search of the Aquabats (who are hiding under the floorboards), the scene is similar to the opening sequence of Inglorious Basterds when antagonist Hans Landa goes to a man's house in search of refugee Jewish people who were hiding under the floorboards.
  • The animated sequence in the "Christmas is Special" song is similar to the old Rankin-Bass Christmas specials of the 60s and 70s, like Frosty The Snowman.
  • The name on the mailbox of the woman who causes Lil' Bat to blow up in the cartoon segment is Boyle, a reference to Susan Boyle, a popular Irish singer who got famous for singing "I Dreamed A Dream" from the musical Les Misérables on Britain's Got Talent.
  • The "Christmas Is Special" song that Ricky Fitness sings sounds similar to a lot of the Christmas songs on the album "A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector" by Phil Spector, a music producer who was very popular in the sixties and seventies.
  • Before the Aquabats break into the song "Christmas is Awesome!" in the ending of the episode, Ricky says "And god bless us, everyone" while holding up a wooden crutch, a reference to the character Tiny Tim from Charles Dickens's novel A Christmas Carol.

Trivia[]

  • Santa was played by Matt Walsh of "Veep", and the Krampus was voiced by Robert Smigel, who also voiced Triumph the Insult Comic Dog in the first episode of The Aquabats Super Kickstarter campaign.
  • This was the first episode to be uploaded to YouTube in its entirety.
  • The credits were moved up in the end slate, while clips from The Return of The Aquabats! and Bad Apple! play over. Also, The Hub Network logo was seen in the original version, but however, it was omitted in the remastered version.
  • The footage was later reused for the Aquabats Kooky Kristmas Party! intro.
