Formed in 1996, The Moon Monkeys were a California-based Instrumental Surf Rock band that lasted until 2009. The band featured former Aquabats member Ben Bergeson on Lead Guitar, Jamie Morris on Drums, Jared Terry (Brother of Boyd Terry) on Bass, Brian Coale on Keyboard, and eventually Chris Howe on Backup Guitar.

The band originally started as one of the early lineups of The Sandfleas, Which was just the whole band but with Parker Jacobs on vocals. After having to leave to go on tour with The Aquabats, the group continued playing without Parker, and since they had no singer from then on the only played instrumental music, and eventually evolved into The Moon Monkeys.

In 1996, The Moon Monkeys released a self titled demo tape featuring 9 tracks, that they would often sell at live shows.

In 1997, the band re-released their Demo on CD, now with the title "So Far, Far Out!" on Horchata Records.

The group would continue to play live shows, often opening for The Aquabats, up until 2009 when the band went on hiatus and hasn't performed since.

Backstory[]

(Fictional Backstory from their old website)
In 1964 there were several secret launches from NASA that had the People of Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) completely up in arms. NASA was using monkeys to fly space missions and spy on russian missile silos.

In June of '64, 5 simians were launched on what NASA thought was a regular "Spy Monkey" Mission but something went wrong.

The monkeys took control of the capsule and headed towards our moon. Since this mission was top secret, NASA kept it quiet to the entire world that there were monkeys heading towards the MOON…. Even the PETA protestor's were unaware of this mission as they were paying close attention to the useless slaughter of Panda bears in High Schools and churches around the world. (It seems there were people using the fur from these innocent animals as chest hair for their children).

Well, needless to say at this point the monkeys were out of control and headed toward the dark side of the moon. A band called Pink Floyd wrote a tribute album to these monkeys a few years later and called it "Dark Side of The Moon."
